Description

Dark Chocolate Pecan Pie is a decadent plant-based dessert featuring a flaky buttery crust, a rich and gooey dark chocolate filling, and toasted pecans for a satisfying crunch. This pie offers a harmonious blend of deep chocolate and nutty flavors with a luscious texture, perfect for holidays, special occasions, or everyday indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale

Pie Crust

  • 1 plant-based flaky buttery pie crust

Filling

  • 1 cup high-quality dark chocolate (natural), chopped
  • 1 cup fresh pecans, toasted
  • 3/4 cup maple syrup (natural)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (natural)
  • 1/4 cup plant-based butter
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar (natural)
  • 1 tablespoon natural gelling agent
  • 1/2 cup plant-based milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (natural)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Crust: Roll out your plant-based pie crust on a lightly floured surface. Press it gently into your pie pan, trimming any excess for a neat edge. Chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes to ensure the crust stays crisp during baking.
  2. Toast the Pecans: Place the pecans in a dry skillet over medium heat. Toast them for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until fragrant and lightly golden to enhance their natural oils and flavor.
  3. Make the Filling: In a saucepan over low heat, combine the maple syrup, brown sugar, plant-based butter, and apple cider vinegar. Stir continuously until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves into a smooth syrup. Add the chopped dark chocolate and stir until glossy and fully melted. Incorporate the plant-based milk, vanilla extract, salt, and natural gelling agent, whisking until all ingredients are evenly combined.
  4. Assemble the Pie: Pour a small amount of the chocolate filling into the chilled crust. Evenly sprinkle a layer of toasted pecans on top. Slowly pour the remaining filling over the nuts carefully to keep them distributed throughout the pie.
  5. Bake to Perfection: Bake the pie in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 45 to 50 minutes or until the filling is set but slightly jiggly in the center. Monitor the crust and tent with foil if it browns too quickly. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely to room temperature before serving.

Notes

  • Keep your crust and filling ingredients chilled before assembly for optimal texture.
  • Do not skip toasting pecans to enhance flavor and crunch.
  • Use high-quality dark chocolate to deepen the flavor profile.
  • Avoid overbaking; filling should jiggle slightly upon removal from the oven.
  • Allow the pie to cool fully for clean slices and the best texture.
