Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk (or plant-based milk), about 110°F
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (one packet)
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar (natural)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • ⅓ cup plant-based butter, melted
  • ⅓ cup maple syrup (natural)

Filling Ingredients

  • ½ cup softened plant-based butter
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon powder
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar (natural)
  • 1 teaspoon vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)

Optional Glaze

  • Maple syrup (natural)
  • Natural gelling agent (such as pectin, agar, or carrageenan)
  • Plant-based cream cheese (optional, for creamy glaze or filling)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Yeast Mixture: Warm the milk or plant-based milk to about 110°F. Stir in the brown sugar (natural) and active dry yeast. Let the mixture sit for 5 to 10 minutes until it becomes foamy and bubbly, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients and Dough: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cinnamon powder, and salt. Add the foamy yeast mixture, melted plant-based butter, and maple syrup (natural). Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface or with a stand mixer for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Let the Dough Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a clean towel and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
  4. Prepare the Filling: Mix softened plant-based butter, cinnamon powder, brown sugar (natural), and vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural) until well combined.
  5. Shape the Rolls: Roll the dough into a large rectangle. Spread the filling evenly over the surface. Roll the dough lengthwise, then slice into equal pieces. Arrange the rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise again until puffy.
  6. Bake to Perfection: Bake the rolls at 350°F for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown on top. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before glazing or serving.
  7. Glaze (Optional): Prepare a glaze by dissolving natural gelling agent in warmed maple syrup (natural). Drizzle over the warm rolls or spread plant-based cream cheese (optional) for extra richness.

Notes

  • Use warm liquids to properly activate the yeast without killing it.
  • Kneading is essential to develop gluten for airy texture.
  • Allow the shaped rolls to rise a second time for soft, fluffy results.
  • Always check yeast freshness for best rise.
  • Brush tops with melted plant-based butter after baking for a shiny crust.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature up to 2 days.
  • Freeze tightly wrapped for up to 3 months; thaw overnight in the fridge.
  • Reheat in a preheated oven at 300°F for 10 minutes, loosely covered with foil.
